Frequently asked questions
This page answers common questions about ADHD in adults, ADHD coaching, diagnosis, autism, AuDHD, Access to Work, shared care, and practical support in the UK.
What is ADHD?
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, organisation, impulsivity and emotional regulation. It often continues into adult life.
Do I have ADHD?
A professional assessment is the only way to confirm this. Many people explore ADHD after noticing long-term patterns like inconsistency, forgetfulness, overwhelm or difficulty following through.
Do I need a diagnosis?
You need a diagnosis for medication. You do not need one to start coaching or ask for support. You may also be able to apply for Access to Work without one.
How do I get an ADHD diagnosis in the UK?
You can go via your GP and NHS pathways, or privately. If you plan to move to NHS prescribing later, read about shared care.
Can adults be diagnosed later in life?
Yes. Many people are diagnosed in adulthood. It often explains long-standing patterns.
Do you support autistic adults too?
Yes. Support is available for ADHD, autism and AuDHD. See autism support.
What is AuDHD?
AuDHD refers to people who are both autistic and ADHD. The combination can create mixed and sometimes conflicting needs.
What can I expect from coaching?
Coaching focuses on real-life challenges and practical ways to handle them. See ADHD coaching.
What happens in a coaching session?
We focus on what is happening now, what is getting in the way, and what may help. Sessions are practical and tailored.
What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
Therapy often explores past and emotional context. Coaching focuses on present challenges and practical change.
Do you work online or in person?
Both. Online across the UK and in-person in the North East.
How much do you charge?
See the pricing page. You can also use Brain Sessions.
I cannot afford coaching
Options include Access to Work, NHS support, or lower-cost sessions.
Can Access to Work pay?
Yes. It can fund ADHD coaching where it supports your work.
How long does Access to Work take?
It can take time. Apply early as it is not backdated.
Workplace adjustments
Examples include clearer instructions, flexible working and reduced interruptions.
Equality Act and ADHD
ADHD can be protected if it has a long-term impact, even without diagnosis.
What is a Brain Session?
A one-off session to help you think through a specific issue. See Brain Sessions.
